Bringing their "A" game to the hardwood floor in both volleyball and basketball, Stewartville's dynamic duo of 6-2 freshman Erin Lamb and 5-9 sophomore Lily Welch led the Tiger spiker and cager teams to the Section 1AA championship this school year. Lamb, who earned All-State honors as a middle hitter on the volleyball court, recently earned HVL All-Conference and All-Section 1AA basketball honors, as well as being named first-team forward on the 2018 Post Bulletin All-Area Team in late March. She earned the honor by scoring an average of 21 points, grabbing 8.4 rebounds and blocking 4.1 shots per game. Welch, who surged to be an impact player at the end of both seasons, was selected an All-HVL outside hitter in volleyball and was recently named a second-team guard on the PB's All-Area Team. She earned the honor by scoring an average of 14.6 and grabbing 7.1 rebounds per game. The Post Bulletin stated the reasons why each of the five first-team and five second-team members were selected. This is what the PB printed about Stewie's dynamic duo, Lamb and Welch:
All-Area First Team Forward Erin Lamb "Lamb is a young star, already with 1,065 career points and just a freshman. A lanky player but still sturdy, Lamb can shoot from anywhere, is difficult to block and has a picture-perfect stroke. Expects to grow more and will continue to get stronger. Also all-state in volleyball. Will likely go down as one of the top girls athletes ever out of southeastern Minnesota."
All-Area Second Team Guard Lily Welch "Welch came on incredibly strong at the end of the season, with four games of 20 points or more the last month. A springy player with a golden shot, Welch was at her best in the Section 1AA championship against Byron when she scored 29 points on 13-for-18 shooting. Almost all of them were mid-range jumpers. The athletic Welch can also rebound and averaged 7.1 of them this season."
