The girls placed first in eight and the boys were first in nine of the 16 events as the Stewartville track and field team clobbered the competition at the Austin Quad on April 12. Shot put and pole vault events were not held due to poor field conditions. The Class A Tigers ran past Class AA opponents Albert Lea, Austin and Kasson-Mantorville, racking up not only first-place points, but both the girls and boys piled up second-place points in six events while the girls and boys claimed third-place points in three events each. "I'm very impressed with our first outdoor showing," complimented Tiger girls coach Dawn Miller. Triple winners Laura Pedelty and Maia Peterson showcased the Stewie girls. Pedelty won the open 800m in a time of 2:30.65 and also ran a leg on the winning 4x400m (4:21.67) and 4x800m (10:04.64) relay teams. Peterson won the open 200m in a time of 27.66 and also ran a leg on the winning 4x200 (1:55.36) and 4x400m relay teams. The Tiger boys were led by triple winners Dylan Flink and Trent Einertson. Flink won the 100m in a time of 11.78, won the long jump with a leap of 18-5 and was the anchor of the winning 4x100m (45.79) relay. Einertson won the open 400m (55.03) and was the lead leg on the winning 4x400m (3:46.64) and 4x800m (8:48.45) relay teams. For more on this story pick up your copy of the April 17 Stewartville STAR.
