Funeral service for Joan Hodge Oct. 28 at Zion

The funeral service for Joan L. Hodge, age 68, of rural Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kim Kyllo officiating.
Mrs. Hodge died on Oct. 17, 2017 from injuries suffered in a car accident.
Joan Lurene Hodge was born on Aug. 2, 1949 in Rochester, to Earl and Lurene (Markham) Horstmann. She grew up in the Pleasant Grove area and attended Stewartville schools. She graduated from Stewartville High School in 1967. She attended Methodist-Kahler nursing school and graduated in 1969 with her nursing degree.
On June 5, 1971, Joan married her high school sweetheart, Duane Hodge. They made their home in rural Pleasant Grove where they raised their three children. Joan was employed as a registered nurse at Rochester Methodist Hospital-Mayo Clinic until her retirement in December 2010, after 41 years of service. Joan was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a generous, caring person with a big heart. Her hobbies included taking pictures, scrapbooking, crafting and gardening. She loved to take pictures of her family, friends and especially her seven grandchildren and making scrapbooks for everyone to preserve their memories.
Joan was an exceptional nurse who was respected and admired by all of her co-workers and patients.
Joan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Duane; one daughter, Amy (Dan) Goldsmith of Chatfield; two sons, Jeff (Angie) Hodge of Oronoco and Rusty (Stephanie) Hodge of Hayfield; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Jared and Nathan Goldsmith, Brandon and Ashley Hodge and Kevin and Katie Hodge; two brothers, Bob (Cindy) Horstmann and Hank (Barb) Horstmann, both of rural Stewartville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lurene Horstmann.
A time of visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the services on Saturday morning.
A committal service with burial will take place at 12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
The family suggests memorials to Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. www.griffin-gray.com
