Nate Deprey, director of the Stewartville Public Library, says when he thinks about expanding the library, the children’s area is a possibility. “We are short on shelf space for children and adult fiction,” he said. “Twenty-five percent of our circulation comes from the children’s area.”

As he looks to the longterm future, Nate Deprey envisions an expanded Stewartville Public Library.
At the same time, Deprey, the library's director, is willing to be patient when it comes to putting his expansion plans into effect.
"The main thing is, we're not doing anything tomorrow," Deprey said last week. "Nothing is set in stone. We could decide to do nothing and stay with what we have."
Every two years, the state of Minnesota provides grant funding for the state's libraries, Deprey said.
"It's my hope we're in a position to apply for a grant for 2023," he said. "There are a million upgrades we could pursue. We could do an expansion along with City Hall, or a stand-alone expansion of our space..."
