The memorial service for Charlotte D. Kath, 85, a lifelong Stewartville resident, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville with Rev. Kim Kyllo officiating.
Mrs. Kath died on Saturday, May 27, 2017, unexpectedly, of natural causes, at Mayo Clinic Rochester-St. Marys Hospital Campus.
Charlotte Delores Rud was born June 7, 1931 in Haverhill Township, Olmsted County to Clarence and Thelma (Molde) Rud. She grew up in rural Stewartville and attended country school before moving with her family to Stewartville. She helped at home and was employed at Boyum Foods and then Berg Drug Store, both in Stewartville.
Charlotte was married on Sept. 16, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville to William J. Kath. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Stewartville where they started their family and lived for many years. Charlotte was a homemaker and returned to Berg Drug where she was employed for a number of years until her retirement. Bill was a longtime employee with the Olmsted County Highway Department, Stewartville location. Mr. Kath died June 7, 1990.
Charlotte was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active with the auxiliaries for the Stewartville American Legion Post #164 and Stewartville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8980. She belonged to the Stewartville Center for Active Adults and volunteered at the Stewartville Care Center and with Channel One. Charlotte lived at the Stewartville Apartments and resided for the past two years at the Stewartville Care Center, where she enjoyed the many activities and the wonderful care she was given. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, following the Twins and Vikings and time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Charlotte is survived by her son, David Kath of Lee's Summit, Missouri; her daughter, Julie Kath of Stewartville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Sandy Rodenz, Germaine (Charlie) Baker and Harry Rud, all of Stewartville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Barbara Kath, and granddaughter, Nicole Kath; three sisters, Elaine "Shorty" Haley, Carolyn Evans and Janice Borgschatz; three brothers, Lyle Rud, Richard Rud and Dayton Rud, and two siblings who died at a young age, Janet and William Rud.
A time of visitation for friends and family will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning. A committal service and inurnment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester on Thursday afternoon.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
