Celebration of Life for Lori Geerdes Sept. 3 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home

The Celebration of Life for Lorraine "Lori" Geerdes, 84, of Stewartville, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartvile with Rev. Laura Nordstrom officiating.
Mrs. Geerdes died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past 15 years.
Lorraine Marie Mathews was born on Feb. 21, 1937 at the family farmstead in rural Minneaska, to John and Mabel (Ball) Mathews. She grew up on the family farm, attended country school and Eyota schools, graduating from Eyota High School in 1954.
Lorraine was married in 1955 to Orrin Schafer and they were later divorced. She was employed at the Eyota Creamery for a few years.
Lorraine was married on June 20, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa to Harry D. Geerdes. Following their marriage they made their home in Stewartville, where they raised their family and lived for many years. Lori had a long career as a bookkeeper with the A.P. Herold Accounting firm in Rochester until her retirement. Harry was a lifelong farmer until his retirement. Mr. Geerdes died on Dec. 27, 2013. Lori was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and going dancing with Harry in younger years. The Stewartville Care Center was her home and the staff there were her extended family. They kept her up on current events and Stewartville news. She especially looked forward to time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lori is survived by her daughter, Linda (Steven) Kath of Puyallup, Washington; daughter-in-law, Patricia Geerdes of rural Stewartville; four granddaughters, Angela Kath, Rebecca Kath, Nikki (Cole) Roeder and Brittany (Charlie) Stevens; one great-granddaughter, Payten; and three great-grandsons, Shea, Grady and Charlie; two brothers, Alvin "Al " Mathews of Douglas, and Frank Mathews of Oronoco; and a niece, Cindy Gardner of Rochester..
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her son, David, her parents, and her brother, Keith Mathews.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday morning at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. A private family burial will take place at a later date in High Forest Cemetery in High Forest.
