Prayer service for Violet Springer Oct. 20 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home

Violet Vera Springer, 92, of Stewartville, died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where she had been a resident for one month.
Violet Vera Quandt was born on Nov. 5, 1928 in Stewartville, to Elmer and Alice (Lee) Quandt. She grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Valley Township, Minnesota where she went to country school and attended Stewartville High School graduating in 1946. She was employed at the Kahler Hotel in Rochester where she worked in the cigar store and as an elevator operator and would get $100 tips at times.
Violet was married in Witchita, Kansas in 1955 to Donald Thomas. The couple made their home in Witchita, where Violet was employed at the Holiday Inn as a hostess. Mr. Thomas died on Jan. 30, 1968.
Violet was married on Dec. 14, 1974 to Robert Springer. They made their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahome where they lived for many years. Violet was a homemaker. Mr. Springer died on May 8, 2013. Vi moved to Stewartville in 2014 to live near her brother Ray and his family. She was a past member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley where she was baptized and confirmed. Violet enjoyed sports - basketball and the OU Sooners, followed politics, loved a good burger and cooking for her family. She loved time spent with her family, especially celebrating the holidays. Vi never met a stranger and often said there is not a bad person around, if you get to know them.
Violet is survived by her four stepchildren, Andy, Dave, Tom, and Debra; nine stepgrandchildren; many stepgreat-grandchildren; her brother, Ray Quandt of Stewartville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents and two sisters, Evelyn Ellefson and Verna Haack.
The visitation for family and friends will take place from 5-7 p.m., followed with a prayer service on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. Vi will be laid to rest at Sunny Lanes Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma at a later date.
