Memorial service for Beth Thompson Nov. 1 at Stewartville United Methodist

The memorial service for Frances "Beth" Thompson, 88, a longtime Stewartville resident will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021 at Stewartville United Methodist Church with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson died on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 of natural causes at her home.
Frances Beth Bjerstedt was born on Feb. 23, 1933 to Emil and Frances (Webster) Bjerstedt in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She grew up in LaCrosse, attended LaCrosse Central High School graduating in 1951.
Beth was married on Feb. 23, 1952 in LaCrosse to George Thompson. Following their marriage the couple lived in LaCrosse where they began their family. Beth was a homemaker and George was employed as a Union sheet metal worker. The Thompsons moved to Stewartville in 1970 where they raised their family and have continued to make their home. Beth was a homemaker and was employed part-time at the optical department at Daytons and then at Rochester Family Eye Clinic for a number of years. George was employed with Himec in Rochester as he completed a 60 year career as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #10. Beth was a longtime active member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church where she served with its Ladies Aid activities and always enjoyed volunteering with the annual International Luncheon fundraiser. She and George were members of the Center for Active Adults in Stewartville. Beth enjoyed flower gardening, going on bus tours with George and loved time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beth is survived by her husband, George, three daughters and one son, Stephanie Curtis of Menifee, California, Audrey Hyland of Eden Prairie, Barb (Hap) Hegman of Vero Beach, Florida, and Robert (Christy) Thompson of Corona, California; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alan Bjerstedt of Tiptonville, Tennessee; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Jay Thompson, her parents, her sister, Audrey Tikal and her brother, Bruce Bjerstedt.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning.
Beth's family suggests memorials to the Center for Active Adults in Stewartville.
